The latest thoughts and adventures of Madam Wilcox

I’m a germ freak!

It came to my attention that there is little trust on the side of new clients when it comes to dungeon cleanliness. Unfortunately I have heard a few disappointing examples. The last strike that inspired me to write was a copout answer given by a doctor in response to a “would-be” client wanting to go see a professional dominant. He advised the gentleman to just not go see a professional dominant in order to not take the risk. That was just unacceptable. So, I’d like to put the fears to rest.

I have always been a germ freak, even as a kid. I’d walk on top of furniture if the floors weren’t clean. I know, weird. I’ve relaxed a little bit in my old age, but I’m also more educated on when and how microbes need to be addressed. It’s important to me to play safely, that includes but is not limited to hygiene. Body fluids need to be treated as a biohazard. Clean fields for play that involves body fluids need to be respected.

Generally speaking I try to keep body fluids off toys and surfaces. When that isn’t possible I clean the object multiple times. First it’s cleaned with soap and water twice, allowing the soap to get any residue off and to sit on the object for a low grade disinfectant. After the object has air dried it is treated with a wide ban disinfectant like madacide or cavicide to the manufacturer’s directions. Then it is rinsed of chemicals and allowed to air dry. All surfaces are treated with alcohol, even floggers, after contact with skin. If an object comes in contact with blood, depending on the object, it’s treated with the cavicide, bleach, and/or retired. If I have any doubt about the cleanliness of a toy or surface, I clean it again before I use it with a play partner. To give you a better idea of how serious professional dominants take hygiene I’m including an excerpt from a dungeon protocol manual which follows.

The spreading of disease by bdsm activity where common sense and safer sex rules are applied is ridiculously low by all reports I’ve heard. If anyone has any information I’d like to hear about it. Or if you have questions regarding this subject feel free to ask me or anyone else you intend to play with. [415.728.8642] It’s important.

CLEANING TOYS & EQUIPMENT
Clean, dry and put away all toys after use.

Each room has spray bottles containing Alcohol, Toy Cleaner, and Madacide-1. All soap dispensers contain antibacterial soap.

Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol 70% evaporates quickly and is widely used as an antiseptic for sterilizing surfaces or cleaning minor cuts or abrasions. Also used for cleansing surgical instruments. As an antiseptic it is good against vegetative bacteria and fair against fungi and viruses.

Toy Cleaner is a mixture of antibacterial soap and water. Antibacterial soap removes as much as 97% of contaminating bacteria and viruses. It is mild to the skin and provides broad antimicrobial effectiveness. With an active ingredient of triclosan, antibacterial soap inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria.

Madacide-1 is a broad spectrum, multipurpose disinfectant/cleaner that does not contain alcohol. It is bactericidal, virucidal, fungicidal and tuberculocidal with a contact time of 10 minutes at room temperature. Effective against HIV-1, microbacterium tuberculosis, salmonella choleraesuis, and mold and mildew. MadaCide-1 is noncorrosive, nonstaining, nontoxic and biodegradable.

Madacide-1
To be used ONLY for items which have come into contact with blood or other bodily fluids (semen, feces, urine, saliva). (This does NOT include sweat). Always use Madacide-1 on:
1) all gags
2) all electrical insertables
3) anything bloody or that broke skin
4) anything with semen, feces, urine, or saliva contact

Follow the cleaning method below:
1) Wash with soapy water first if necessary to remove any goop/jelly etc, lay on an underpad, spray with Madacide-1 and wait for contact time of 10 mins.
2) Rinse toy with water (this is super important–we don’t want to expose our clients to any madacide residue). >>>Skip this step for suede/leather. DO NOT rinse suede/leather—floggers, paddles…<<<
3) Lastly spray with Toy Cleaner or hand wash with antibacterial soap (to cut any remaining mad residue).
Air-dry or wipe dry with paper towel, and put away.

Alcohol and Toy Cleaner
To be used as primary cleaners for all other toys, equip & surfaces NOT in contact with bodily fluids.

As a general rule use Toy Cleaner for:
1) rubber items (like rubber floggers, dipped clothespins etc)
2) painted surfaces (for ex. black wood paddle, stool, chair)
3) vinyl/leather surfaces, table tops etc

As a general rule use Alcohol for:
1) leather floggers (too difficult to dry Toy Cleaner off, Alcohol evaporates quickly)
2) glass (violet wand attachments)
3) cutting oily residue
4) when quick drying is necessary
